In the western society insects are combined with disgust. In times of ressource scarcity and overpopulation the high potential of them is not be seen, like using them as an substitute for meat. So, our perception of insects should be critically questioned.
The appeal’s aestheticization is the core of the thesis. We worked experimentally with the insects, analyzed the distate’s principles and pushed ourselfs in an area between disgust and attraction.

The target of this project was not only designing an ultra-light aircraft, but also creating an aeroplane which is electrically powered by solar energy. We used the structure of a dragonfly as a design model for the plane’s framework. The advantages of this structure are the high stability and the light weight. Furthermore, the cockpit is open to give the pilot the feeling of flying. The wing area has a size of 50 m2 and a wingspan of 28 m. The maximum take-off weight is 300 kg. The aircraft achieves a cruise speed of 50 km/h. The solar-powered plane has a full length of 9,2 m and an efficiency of 5,5 kW.

IBEX is a touring ski binding with an innovative part in the back which answers to the needs of a tourer materializing the result with contemporary design. The engineering of the front part of the binding is a redesign. The binding’s unique selling proposition is the clean and attractive design which highlights the function and the used materials.
This project was supported by the binding manufacturer Fritschi and the design agency 5th dimension.

IN AND OUT OF MIND is a 3D mindmap with a collection of topics that influence the designer’s thinking and our society – sustainability, urbanization, freedom, digitalism, DIY, sharing, trash, complexity, wealth and demography. A crystalline sculpture that hovers freely in the room and can be explored by the visitors. Every area is extensively connected with each other. The visitor is able to explore the sculpture, to create new connections and to widen the individual field of vision.

This project was developed in cooperation with EADS.
The main task was the design of an interior for short-haul aircrafts with the topic “simpy fly”. The central idea is a modular system with a clean, puristic and efficient interior. The base is permanently fixed in the aircraft’s interior. Different versions of seats can be installed on it. The modular system is an efficient way of reducing the use of material and rearrange the use of space in aircrafts.

According to the „ecological footprint“ (dt.: ökologischer Fußabdruck), the installation X_30 introduces the „social handshake“ (dt.: sozialer Händedruck) as a new unit to focus on the manpower in global manufacturing chains. Most of the time our consumption is not influenced by the thinking about the people who helped to fabricate the products we buy. In a global world the processes are not visible and transparent.
The Installation shows the process of five exemplarily objects that we use in our daily life. Every hand stands for an individual that helps to build or transport the items. Each working step (every hand) gets visible. We need to raise our awareness of consuming products.
Reach out your hand! Does this handshake change your habits and appreciation for the products you buy?
